Lucía Ageitos, Ph.D.
Dr. Lucía Ageitos, born in A Coruña, Spain, earned her B.S. in Chemistry and M.S. in Chemical Research from the University of A Coruña (UDC). Driven by interdisciplinary research, she contributed to projects combining enantiomeric organic synthesis and biological evaluation of potential therapeutics. During her master’s studies, a course in Natural Products Chemistry sparked her interest and led her to pursue a Ph.D. in the field with the ProNaMar research group at UDC. Her doctoral research focused on iron uptake mechanisms mediated by siderophores from pathogenic bacteria and antimicrobial peptides derived from venomous organisms, aimed at developing new antimicrobials. As part of her Ph.D., she conducted a research stay with Prof. César de la Fuente’s group at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Ageitos earned her Ph.D. in Chemistry in February 2024 and joined the Moore Lab in October 2024 to explore the heterologous production and biosynthesis of antimicrobial natural products. Outside the lab, she enjoys traveling, discovering new restaurants with friends, and spending time outdoors.
